    President's Message

Medicine, unlike any other career or profession, is an art which seeks the continuous viability of the human being (an art of healing), and is as old as the human race itself. From the time of Hippocrates to the present, Medicine has not changed; it has become modernized and perfected in many areas.

I am proud to say that our medical program has been geared toward the alleviation of human suffering through medical care. Our students are trained to function anywhere around the globe for the propagation of the human race. It is hoped that each graduate from this university will be instrumental in prolonging life. If you are seeking a career that needs complete dedication and total giving, join our unique medical program for the fulfillment of that inner pursuit. At this University everybody is welcome without regard to race, color, age or gender. Let us join together to eradicate disease in our time.

Message from Director of Students Services

The dream to become a physician is a noble one, which requires a very high level of dedication, motivation and support of your peers. The multi-cultural and ethnic diversity of the University epitomizes its uniqueness. This makes the Spartan Health Sciences University a household name that welcomes everybody, irrespective of one’s race, religion and ethnic background.

I work in conjunction with all student organizations such as S.G.A. (Student Government Association), Spartan Chapter of A.M.S.A. (American Medical Student Association) and the Heart Beat (on-campus student newsletter).

The S.G.A. elects their representatives to deal with any student problems, issues and grievances among themselves with my guidance.

Through A.M.S.A., students are encouraged to develop humanitarian aspect of the medical profession by engaging in community service activities like Free Health Fairs and Health related Lectures as well as donation of items to under- privileged St. Lucian community.

The Heart Beat Newsletter serves as a medium among the students to express themselves in writing and communication skills in relation to various campus activities besides studying medicine.

As Director of Students Services, I want to ensure student’s safety to the utmost and help to accommodate them in St. Lucia within school’s recommended surroundings and stipulated safety regulations.

    Benjamin Alemina, M.D.

Welcome Message From The Honourable Prime Minister of St Lucia

It is not often that a Parliamentary Representative is given an opportunity to welcome students of a school of higher learning to his constituency. Not only is higher education a rare commodity, but perhaps, because of its scarcity, it is also extremely expensive. By extension, therefore, it also means that the caliber and quality of persons who work and study at such institutions are also very rare.

It is for this reason that the Spartan Medical School holds a special place in my heart as the Parliamentary Representative for Vieux Fort South. I see the school, its staff and its students as an important addition to the Vieux Fort family. For this reason, it gives me special pleasure to welcome the newest members of the Spartan Medical School to Vieux Fort.

Before I invite you to enjoy the delights of Vieux Fort and St Lucia as a whole, it is necessary that I explain to you more clearly what I hope to convey when I describe you as a rare and special addition to the Vieux Fort family.

As someone who lived and worked for a very long time as an academic at the University of the West Indies in Barbados, I have grown to appreciate the way in which a body of academics and students can contribute to the intellectual and social life of the society in which they operate. I have always believed that St Lucia, being very small, and having to grapple constantly with a largely untrained and under-qualified workforce, would benefit tremendously from the presence of a cadre of academics and researchers on its soil.

I welcome you, therefore, as part of the growing cadre of intellectuals and researchers in St Lucia and I entreat you to participate fully and meaningfully in the intellectual life of St Lucia and to lend your talents and skills to the development of our small country.

I want to take this opportunity also to thank the directors of the Spartan medical School for having the confidence to establish this institution on St Lucian soil. I must enphasize that the Spartan Medical School has also contributed significantly to the economic life of Vieux Fort. Several homeowners in the Vieux Fort have taken the opportunity to expand their houses to provide landlord services to the students of this facility. Undoubtedly, the restaurants, supermarkets and retail outlets of the Vieux Fort area have also benefited tremendously from the presence of the medical school. I wish, therefore, to thank its Principals for investing in View Fort and I urge them to continue in this partnership of mutual growth and benefit.

Finally, let me urge the new students to discover, not only Vieux Fort, but also the whole of St Lucia. An Aladdin’s cave of breathtaking sights and majestic scenery is there for your enjoyment, for as long as you remain with us.

More importantly, the warmth and friendliness of the St Lucian people is there to embrace the visiting students in the moments when they may feel overwhelmed by their studies and if they grow lonely and homesick.

On behalf of the People of Vieux Fort and St Lucia, I welcome the latest group of students to St Lucia. I wish them a productive period of research, learning and intellectual and personal growth and I urge them to allow themselves to feel at home with our people and our landscape.

    Thank you.

    Dr. Kenny Anthony
