The initial four trimesters of the program represent an integrated course presentation of the Basic Medical Sciences (BS) which include Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology and Behavioral Sciences. Pre-clinicals include General Introduction to Medicine and Physical Diagnosis. Didactic lectures in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Surgery are also offered. Clinical correlated conferences are conducted for related basic sciences to clinical medicine. The final five (5) trimesters are committed to broad clinical exposure in the major clinical disciplines of Internal Medicine, Surgery and its Sub-specialties, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Family Medicine and Psychiatry as well as clinical electives.
All students are required to demonstrate competency in the basic medical sciences before being permitted to begin clinical rotations. Competency is assessed from the University administered and required Comprehensive Exit Examination at the end of Basic Sciences program and passing of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1.
No student will be eligible for graduation until all academic requirements and financial obligations of the University have been fullfilled.
